Emil Hartmann (1836-1898) was a fourth-generation German family which emigrated to Denmark in 1768; a pupil of his father Johan and Niels Gade; church musician; wrote mainly large scale works and little chamber music, among which is the quite amusing Serenade Opus 43 for eight wind and two lower strings (1890).
