ISBN 9790007091422.There are seventeen one-movement instrumental compositions known to have been composed by Mozart designated as either "Church sonatas" or "Epistle sonatas." These consist partly of simple trios for two violins and bass, partly of generous, concertante movements with obbligato organ. They were intended for services in the Salzburg Cathedral and were played after the reading of the epistle, between the Gloria and the Credo. The present transcriptions of all the Church sonatas for solo organ by Zsigmond Szathmary enable the use of these charming miniatures even under simple performance conditions.
