Coltrane based 26-2 on Charlie Parkers 'Confirmation', but altered it slightly using his famous 'Coltrane Changes' system of over writing the melody and harmonies. Scored for 5 Saxophones, this is not for the faint-hearted!! But should engender some focused practice sessions! Incidentally, 26-2 was originally an untitled track on the 1960 album, Trane brought it into the studio at the last minute, and after 26 takes on day 2 it was labelled as such by the producer, 26-2, and the name just seemed to stick!Full recorded MP3 on this site too.
