Published by Houben Editions (BT.HBE001-009). Future Celebration was composed on the occasion of the 125th anniversary of the Royal Socialist Wind Band ‘De Toekomst’ from Sint-Niklaas (Belgium). In this colourful compostion Kevin Houben succeeds in evoking the bustling textile and cigar industry of the nineteenth and twentieth century in this East Flemish city Sint-Niklaas. After all, these crafts were characteristic for the wealth they brought to the city. Still testimony of this are the 2 unique (niche)museums in Sint-Niklaas: the Knitwear museum and the Pipe and Tobacco museum. Even in times of great crises eg. during the Interbellum the city continued flourishing proving the unique collection of classified art deco houses, amongst others the former People’s House, in which the Royal Socialist Wind Band still rehearse. This historic background of Sint-Niklaas and of the Wind Band in particular has been musically presented by Kevin Houben in Future Celebration. The brief, but energetic and powerful opening of the work by the brass instruments gives musical expression to Sint-Niklaas as a prosperous city. After the presentation of a majestic and lyrical theme by the woodwinds an allegro with a cheerful theme takes a look at the future, hopefully looking at the next milestones/ celebrations the city and its orchestra are still expecting in the future.Future Celebration werd gecomponeerd ter gelegenheid van de 125ste verjaardag van de Koninklijke Socialistische Harmonie De Toekomst uit Sint-Niklaas (België). In deze kleurrijke compositie slaagt Kevin Houben erin de bruisende textiel- en sigarennijverheid uit de negentiende en de twintigste eeuw van de Oost-Vlaamse stad Sint-Niklaas weer te geven. Deze ambachten waren immers kenmerkend voor de rijkdom die ze voor de stad met zich meebrachten. Getuige daarvan zijn nog steeds de 2 unieke (niche)musea in Sint-Niklaas: het Breigoedmuseum en het Pijp- en Tabaksmuseum. Zelfs in tijden van grote crisissen, bv. tijdens het interbellum, bleef de stad floreren. Kenmerkend hiervan zijn de unieke collectie geklasseerde art-decohuizen, waaronder het vroegere Volkshuis, waar de Koninklijke Socialistische Harmonie De Toekomst nog steeds repeteert. Deze historische achtergrond van Sint-Niklaas en van het harmonieorkest in het bijzonder, heeft Kevin Houben in Future Celebration muzikaal voorgesteld. De korte, maar energieke en krachtige opening van het werk, door de koperblazers, verklankt Sint-Niklaas als welvarende stad. Nadat de houtblazers een breed en lyrisch thema presenteren, werpt een allegro met een opgewekt thema een blik op de toekomst, hoopvol vooruitkijkend naar de volgende mijlpalen/vieringen die de stad en haar orkest nog te wachten staan.Future Celebration wurde komponiert anlässlich des 125. Geburtstages des Königlichen Sozialistischen Harmonieorchester aus Sint-Niklaas (Belgien). In dieser bunten Komposition gelingt Kevin Houben es, die lebhafte Textil- und Zigarrenindustrie der Ostflämischen Stadt Sint-Niklaas aus dem neunzehnten und zwanzigsten Jahrhundert wiederzugeben. Diese Gewerbe waren derzeit kennzeichnend für den Reichtum der Stadt. Zeugen davon sind immer noch zwei einzigartige Museen in Sint-Niklaas: das Strickzeugmuseum und das Pfeife- und Tabaksmuseum. Sogar in Zeiten von großen Krisen; so florierte die Stadt auch noch in der Zwischenkriegszeit. Man findet aus dieser Zeit noch einige Art Deco-Häuser, unter anderem das ehemalige ‘Volkshuis’, wo das Königliche Sozialistische Harmonieorchester heute immer noch probt. Dieser historische Hintergrund von Sint-Niklaas und besonders die vom Harmonieorchester hat Kevin Houben in Future Celebration musikalisch dargestellt. Die kurze aber ernergische und kräftige Eröffnung der Komposition, von den Blechbläsern gespielt, stellt die wohlhabende Stadt dar. Nachdem die Holzbläser ein breites und lyrisches Thema präsentieren, schaut ein Allegro mit einem aufgeweckten Thema in die Zukunft, hoffnungsvoll nach vorne blickend auf neue Meulensteine/Feiern für die Stadt und das Orchester.Future Celebration a été composé l'occasion du 125e anniversaire de l'orchestre d'harmonie Royal Socialist 'De Toekomst' de Sint-Niklaas (Belgique). Dans cette composition colorée, Kevin Houben réussit évoquer l'effervescence de l'industrie du textile et du cigare des XIXe et XXe siècles dans cette ville de Flandre orientale qu'est Sint-Niklaas. Ces métiers étaient caractéristiques de la richesse qu'ils apportaient la ville. En témoignent encore les 2 musées de Sint-Niklaas : le musée de la maille et le musée de la pipe et du tabac. Même pendant les périodes de grandes crises, lors de l’Entre-deux-guerres par exemple, la ville a continué prospérer. En témoigne la quartier classé, de maisons art déco et en particulier l'ancienne Maison du Peuple, dans laquelle l'orchestre d'harmonie Royal Socialist répète toujours. C’est ce contexte historique de Sint-Niklaas et son orchestre d'harmonie qui a inspiré musicalement Kevin Houben dans Future Celebration. L'ouverture brève, mais énergique et puissante de l'œuvre par les cuivres donne une expression musicale Sint-Niklaas en tant que ville prospère. Après une exposition d'un thème majestueux et lyrique par les bois, un allegro avec un motif joyeux jette un regard sur l'avenir, avec l'espoir de voir les prochaines étapes, les célébrations que la ville et son orchestre attendent encore pour le futur.
