The melody of "Abide With Me," Eventide, was composed in 1861, and its peaceful harmony has endeared it to generations of Christians. The text for 'Jesus, the Very Thought of Thee' was composed by Bernard of Clairvaux in the 1100s, and the music, St. Agnes, by Dykes was composed in 1866. This hymn has enjoyed an increase in publication and popularity in the 21st Century listed as a hymn for Holy Communion, although appropriate for any worship service.
