It was one of a group of four small character pieces. Clara Schumann premiered the work with the horn player Julius Schlitterlau, writing subsequently in her diary: 'The piece is splendid, fresh and passionate, just as I like it!'(-The Strad) Robert Schumann later rewrote this piece for cello and piano as it is presented here and retitled it Adagio and Allegro. These products are currently being prepared by a new publisher. While many items are ready and will ship on time, some others may see delays of several months.
