SATB choir - Digital Download SKU: LX.15-1092 Composed by Ron Atteberry. Educational. Octavo. 8 pages. Heritage Music Press - Digital #e15/1092. Published by Heritage Music Press - Digital (LX.15-1092). UPC: 000308028218.Profound and powerful original musical setting of this section from the Requiem Mass. The contrasting, quiet middle section, ("dona eis requiem"), is beautifully expressed as a lingering sob in comparison to the initial bombastic plea for rest. Comfortable tessitura in all voice parts. Extremely accessible. Marvelous choice for concert or festival. The Requiem Mass, celebratory in nature, has been set by countless composers through the centuries. This "Missa pro Defunctis" (Mass for the Dead) traces its beginning from the very earliest years of Christianity and even more ancient Jewish prayers. The Ordinary of the Mass contains five sections. The "Agnus Dei" (Lamb of God) is the final section, and a well-known portion of that text, "dona nobis pacem" (grant us peace) is replaced by "dona eis requiem" (grant them rest) when sung in the Requiem Mass. This is altered once again in the final recitation to "dona eis requiem sempiternam" (grant them rest eternal).
