It is a bit deceptive because it sounds like the pace really kicks up at verse 2, but in reality, the beat stays the same...there are just more strums. This works in the player's favor. For the most part, you can hold the same chord shape for many of these measures with your fingers and use your thumb to bounce around to grab the extra notes.
