This arrangement is loosely based on the version sung by Aretha Franklin, and starts with two hushed verses in 4/4, then modulates up a tone and into 9/8, for two more verses with a triplet-feel quaver accompaniment. The ending can be big, or quiet, as required. This is a great selection for groups developing in compound time, and suitable for approx ABRSM grade 5 (intermediate) level and above. About the arranger Tim Crooks trained as a violinist and violist, working professionally in Manchester (UK) for many years. He was a founding member of the Manchester String Quartet and scored many arrangements for the group's recordings.
