This arrangement for string orchestra of Andante Cantabile is taken from Tchaikovsky’s String Quartet No. 1 in D, movement 2 (1871). An elegant and moving work, when performed at a concert to celebrate Russian author Leo Tolstoy, it was noted by Tchaikovsky that Tolstoy wept at the end of the movement.
