The tenor and bass verse recounts the story of a young man who goes to the aobao, only to find that his true love is not there. The sopranos and altos answer, giving voice to her reassuring words: “If you wait patiently, I will run to your side.” Finally, they find one another - and under the clear moonlit sky, sing together.
