Score and critical report, Versions B. 480 pages. Duration 90'. Verlagsgruppe Hermann #VGH 734-11. Published by Verlagsgruppe Hermann (M7.VGH-734-11). ISBN 9790006611232.After his death, Johann Strauss left several autograph parts of the score of his only ballet Aschenbrödel, from which Josef Bayer created the completed original version which is published in the Strauss Edition Wien as version A. After the planned premiere at the Vienna Court Opera did not come about, Strauss' widow Adele offered the work to the Royal Court Opera in Berlin, whose choreographer Emil Graeb, however, insisted on a reworking of the libretto. After Heinrich Regel had created a new version, Bayer also reworked the score accordingly, so that the work was finally premiered in Berlin on 2 May 1901. This 1901 version published here is based on the complete extant orchestral parts of the premiere as the main source of the edition. The volume contains the preface on the genesis of the work, the indications of scoring, the report on the edition, notes on the performance practice and the report on the version. The musical text is followed by the editorial notes with a list and evaluation of the sources as well as the list of readings. The volume concludes with the libretto.
