Badinage was commissioned by the Mountainview High School Band in Orem, Utah for performance at the Utah Music Educators Association convention. The title is drawn from many conversations between the composer and John Bowman, director of the Mountainview band. Badinage is defined as a humorous and witty conversation. As the composer recalls this clearly defined many of their conversations. Musically, the work clearly reflects Jim Colonna’s life-long passion and appreciation for the music of Leonard Bernstein.
