With lots of free time during the summer, I decided to write my very first piece for solo viola.   Of course, everyone said to me, "Look at Paul Hindemith's Sonata for solo viola."  I did and found a number of performances on Youtube.  But I was rather disappointed that it was very harsh and and quite an unpleasant piece of music.  LOL!    Thanks to YouTube, next to the Hindemith video I saw that Max Reger also wrote a solo viola work: Drei Suiten für Bratsche allein.  I watched a video performance of it on YouTUbe by Nobuko Imai and fell in love with it.  It is a beautiful work in twelve parts, with many passages that reminded me of Bach, which is always a good sign!!!   With that inspiration from Reger, I modeled my "Bratsche Suite für Max Reger" after the usual baroque suite of seven movements: Fantasia, Allemande, Courante, Sarabande, Bourrée, Double and Gigue.
