Ewald passed away onSeptember 12, 2008 after a sudden and brief battle with aggressive cancer. Colby Coomanpresented the world premiere in his memory in autumn 2008 at the University of Illinois,Urbana-Champaign, where Ewald had been a faculty member for many years.Performance Note: Dynamic markings are kept to a minimum and convey the basic shapes ofeach lines and section and are meant as a basic guide, not a comprehensive marking of everynuance. Both trumpet and piano should seek to convey the expressive, lyric, vocal colors of themusic. The set includes parts for both Bb and C trumpets.
