Prayer of St. Ambrose (2003) for flugelhorn and organ was written for and is dedicated totrumpeter Colby Cooman. The work is a subdued and lyrical work for flugelhorn and organ, suitable for either concert orchurch uses. An opening section of unfolding/introduction leads to a gentle aria over a pulsingaccompaniment which builds to a climax. A warm coda closes the work. The title of the piece is taken from the famous prayer attributed to St. Ambrose of Milan (c. 340 -397) quoted at the top of the score. The title also pays homage to the famous work for trumpetand organ, Prayer of St. Gregory, by American composer Alan Hovhaness (1911-2000)."Lord, teach me to seek Thee, and reveal Thyself to me when I seek Thee. For I cannot seek Thee unless Thou teach me,nor find Thee except Thou reveal Thyself.Let me seek Thee in longing, let me long for Thee in seeking.Let me find Thee in love, and love Thee in finding. Amen."-- The Prayer of St. Ambrose This product was created by a member of ArrangeMe, Hal Leonard's global self-publishing community of independent composers, arrangers, and songwriters.
