Written for six solo singers (SSATBrB), Communion In Light is a gloriously uplifting setting of three verses from a communion hymn written by Johann Franck in 1645, as translated into English in 1863 by Catherine Winkworth. Beautiful counterpoint and harmonies combine to give it a whimsical feeling, reminiscent of a madrigal. Indeed at its first performance somebody in the congregation remarked that it sounded like something written "by a latter-day Monteverdi". I composed it as a wedding present for two friends.
