Das Werk verdankt seine Entstehung wohl dem Umstand, dass man öfters die erstaunlichen Fähigkeiten des jungen Künstlers in Zweifel zog und ihm deshalb eine Aufgabe stellte, die er unter den Augen des Auftraggebers lösen musste. So hat Mozart dieses Violinkonzert für Madame Adelaide von Frankreich, die älteste Tochter Ludwigs XV., komponiert.
