Schwarz is full of exciting time changes that follow affect the pulse rhythmically and melodically, in exciting and unexpected ways. The solo trumpet's displays of technical prowess and bravura alternate with the film score- like sections of the piano. The slow, almost elegiac, central section can be performed on the flugel horn, while the closing reprise demands that both the soloist give of their best as the piece comes to an exciting, colourful, and uplifting finale.In oktober 2009 voltooide componist Otto M. Schwarz zijn eerste concert voor trompet. Omdat hij zelf trompet heeft gestudeerd (bij professor Josef Pomberger aan de Weense muziekuniversiteit), heeft Schwarz veel gevoel voor het instrument,wat tot uiting komt in deze compositie. Concerto for Trumpet No. 1 ‘Trumpet Town’ is geschreven in opdracht van het politieorkest van Boven-Oostenrijk, dat onder leiding staat van Andreas Schwarzenlander. De premièrevond plaats op 17 november 2009. Trompettist Franz Wagnermeyer, die ook aan de muziekuniversiteit van Wenen heeft gestudeerd, was die avond de solist. Momenteel speelt hij onder andere in de internationale groep ‘Ten of the Best’.Concertofor Trumpet No. 1 ‘Trumpet Town’ begint met een snelle passage in een 12/8 maatsoort. Verschillende maatwisselingen hebben invloed op de puls van zowel het ritme als de melodie - waardoor onverwachte, boeiende wendingenontstaan. De staaltjes van techniek in de trompetpartij worden afgewisseld met de filmmuziekachtige passages van de piano. Het langzame, bijna weemoedige middendeel kan ook op de bugel worden uitgevoerd. Vervolgens haaltzowel de solist als de pianist nog eens alles uit de kast in de reprise, die uitmondt in een opwindende, kleurrijke finale.Trumpet Town ist das erste Trompetenkonzert des Komponisten und Trompeters Otto M. Schwarz. Es beginnt mit einer rasanten Passage im 12/8-Takt. Durch Taktwechsel werden Rhythmus und Melodie pulsartig verändert. Technische Raffinessen in der Trompetenstimme wechseln sich mit filmmusikalisch arrangierten Passagen der Begleitung ab. Der Mittelteil ist langsam und elegisch, bevor die Reprise dem Solisten und dem Pianisten nochmals alles abfordert und in ein actionreiches Finale mündet. (Ebenfalls erhältlich für Trompete und Blasorchester.).
