The piece is in three sections, mirroring the three-part form of the scripture passage: a gentle, stoic homophonic opening in C major, a polyphonic, somber middle section in A minor at the words “even death on a cross,” and an exuberant section in A major climaxing in the final statement that “Christ Jesus is the Lord!” For choirs looking for a musical challenge and an opportunity to showcase the choral arts using scriptural texts in Spanish, this masterful work makes for a tremendous concert piece, prelude or liturgical anthem.
