Dedicated to two dear relatives named James: my grandfather Jimmy Rain (1895-1974), a World War I vet, who showed me such love as a boy and a young man growing up; and my cousin Jamie Shaw (1959-2019) whose courage, good spirit and humour throughout his terminal illness was an inspiration to all who knew him.
