Die 3-5stimmige Motette ist eine moderne Auseinandersetzung mit der neutestamentlichen Gleichsetzung der Verheißung des Reisleins aus dem Stamm Isai mit dem in der Krippe zu Bethlehem geborenen Kind. Der weihnachtliche Choral "Es ist ein Ros entsprungen", den Hofmann in dieser Motette verarbeitet, lässt den Hoffnungsschimmer durchklingen, der mit der Geburt Jesu in die Welt kam.
