It features much humor with strong Jazz influence, particularly in the harmonic material. Technical demands are moderate, with only the first bassoon ascending to a high C. It works equally well when played by advanced high school students, college students, or even professional ensembles. All four players are given melodic material and are treated equally in a generally contrapuntal context, punctuated by some cool Jazz harmonies.
