In the third act of this opera, Cavaradossi, sentenced to death and while he is a prisoner in the Castle of Sant'Angelo, evokes the intimate moments lived with his beloved Tosca, singing the aria E lucevan le stelle, as the night dissipates and slowly the time of its execution is approaching. This transcription for symphonic band takes advantage of the wind orchestra’s sound colors and resources to achieve both the intimate character of Cavaradossi’s thoughts and the intensity and frustration he ultimately shows against his inevitable fate.
