To me, it represents both the majesty of nature and the audacity and ingenuity of the human race. When you approach these sections of road, often you will see the yellow sign, reading Fallen Rocks or Fallen Rock Zone, warning of the possibility that nature will try to reclaim the roadway. In this quartet, I wanted to show both the majesty of the mountains, told in the various chorales throughout the piece, and the juxtaposition of the possible chaos below. Cars speeding past, not always safely or politely. Construction zones. Semi trucks. All of these can be heard throughout this work. Despite all this activity, it is important to remember that the rocks remain. -.
