César Franck composed this Mass in the summer of 1860. In this first version, written for STB choir and orchestral accompaniment, the fifth movement was an O Salutaris. It is only in 1872 that César Franck composed the Panis Angelicus and included it in his Messe à trois voix, as a replacement to the O Salutaris. Franck's Panis Angelicus was originally composed for tenor voice with harp, cello and organ accompaniment. The original key was A Major.This score is an arrangement for violin and piano or organ (manuals only).
