Tuba-euphonium quartet SKU: P2.80122 Composed by Ben McMillan. Chamber music, 20th century. Published by Potenza Music (P2.80122). Originally titled "War in the Hive", Furious Apis depicts what I imagine as a conflict between bees (apis being Latin for bee) and hornets might be like. Though not strictly programmatic, it contains a number of themes that may represent various sides in the imaginary battle. It's a somewhat challenging piece for a group to perform due to the constant flurrying lines bouncing around the parts. The piece was first performed in 2013 at the annual Spring Tubafest at TTU, and was recently recorded by the Arizona-based tuba-euphonium quartet Eufonix for their debut album.
