Slightly less well known than his earlier Gymnopedies, the Gnossiennes, dating from the 1890s, exhibit the same meditative, repetitive style but with influences from Javanese and exotic music. He wrote seven in total.This arrangement takes the structure from the original piano piece, sharing the melodic themes around the quartet whilst taking us on a journey through a sequence of related minor keys.
