Twenty Four songs with sixteen (I think) in the minor key tell of the rejected lover's journey into winter, leaving behind his "rich" lover. This is an arrangement of the first song in the cycle. Performers need to make sure that the speed is kept to a moderate walk and that the solo parts, tuba and trombone are not drowned in too much of a Mahlerian style.
