Shifting harmonies become an artifact of the individual descending voices, while the ebb and flow of these harmonies leads to the perception of "windows of consonance" — or harmonic nodes in C major, A major and E major. Simultaneously, the listener's temporal reference shifts gears in a process of continually augmenting pulses, changing the listener's perception of time and tempo. There is, then, a counterpoint between three different elemental processes: a melodic process, a harmonic process and a temporal process, which all co-operate to create the work's movement from tension to repose.
