Our teacher had us read 'The Scarlet Letter' by Nathaniel Hawthorne, and then encouraged us to be creative in our projects. The lyrics reflect what I imagined the mother (Hester) singing to her infant child Pearl.  This would be a very appropriate sung by a young female voice in a student recital.
