Text by Ignaz Franz.This festive arrangement was used at both the US papal visits of Pope Benedict XVI (2008) and Pope Francis (2015), and can be a thrilling addition to important occasions such as anniversary or dedication events. Following the opening fanfare, verse 1 is scored for unison voices, brass and organ, verse 2 for 4-part choir with solo trumpet, and verse 3 for unaccompanied choir. After a key change, the final rousing verse employs unison choir, descant, assembly and all instruments. The brass writing is striking and the vocal parts require only a minimum of rehearsal.
