Dangerously alluring sirens are represented by high sopranos, echoed by the worksongs of sailors in the ships below. As the sailors draw near, their anticipation builds to nearly overshadow the sirens’ song, building to a climactic shipwreck, after which one solitary siren sings a satisfied melody.I Hear the Siren’s Call blends Chen Yi’s inimitable musical language with traditional Chinese musical idioms to sound the siren’s call, using nonsense syllables and sound effects to create an other-worldly atmosphere.  She dedicates the composition to Chanticleer, in its 35th Anniversary Season. .
