English.IL MATRIMONIO SEGRETO (THE SECRET MARRIAGE) by Domenico Cimarosa (1749-1801) is his only work still to be regularly performed today and arguably among the greatest 18th century opera buffa. The dramma giocoso was so well-received at the February 7, 1792 premiere at the Imperial Hofburg Theatre in Vienna, that Emperor Leopold II had supper served to the entire company followed by an immediate repeat performance of the entire opera. The Italian premiere took place at La Scala in Milan on February 17, 1793. More than one version of the overture exists, but this reprint edition is of the more popular and familiar.
