Its passages highlight numerous skills essential for a developing student cellist, such as bariolage, a variety of articulations, sustained crescendos and decrescendos, sudden dynamic changes, shifting tonal centers using accidentals, and so on. These are all in the context of a dramatic opening, assertive main theme, and a delightful development.
