Fast gäbe es heuer noch ein anderes Jubiläum zu feiern: Vor knapp 500 Jahren, im Jahr 1510, trat Johannes Wannenmacher, genannt Vannius, die Stelle als Kantor des Berner Münsters an. Er war damals neben Cosmas Alder und anderen Musikern Teil eines hochstehenden, lebendigen Berner Musiklebens. Mehrere seiner von der Vokalpolyphonie der Rennaissance geprägten Werke sind uns erhalten geblieben.Im Verlauf des Kompositionsprozesses ergab sich zunehmend ein Bezug zuWannenmachers Musik, insbesondere zu Fragmenten aus dem Bicinium An Wasserflüssen Babylons“ und einer Psalmvertonung. Ich versuchte, musikalische Kräfte aus diesen vokalen Werken auch für die reine Bläserbesetzung einer Brass Band fruchtbar zu machen. So wurde mein Stück zu einer Art Hommage an Vannius, zu einem musikalischen Brückenschlag über Jahrhunderte hinweg. Dabei liess ich mich relativ frei von verschiedenen Assoziationen leiten. Es entstand etwa die Vorstellung, dass einzelne Fragmente von Wannenmachers Musik vielleicht noch heute irgendwo im Berner Münster nachhallen. Dies führte besonders im ersten und letzten Abschnitt zu eng geführten kanonischen Sätzen, welche durch ihren echoartigen Charakter weite Klangräume öffnen. Die lyrische Gesanglichkeit in Wannenmachers Musik findet in meinem Stück ebenfalls Entsprechungen. Besonders der Mittelteil, der als Reihung von Strophen aufgebaut ist, hat den Charakter eines instrumentalen Gesangs. Dabei ging es mir nicht um eine völlig neue Beleuchtung von Vannius’ Melodik, sondern um eine behutsame Verarbeitung. In gewissen Abschnitten verstehe ich Fragmente von Vannius auch durchaus motivisch, was passagenweise zu einer virtuosen und dramatischen Gestik führt. Gegen Ende des Stücks werden diese verschiedenen musikalischen Kräfte gebündelt.Oliver WAESPI.
