About this arrangement

String Orchestra - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.899223 Composed by Claude Debussy. Arranged by Martin Lass. 20th Century. Score and parts. 13 pages. MA Lass & I Lass #6666703. Published by MA Lass & I Lass (A0.899223). In this Level 3.5 (Intermediate/Advanced) String Orchestra arrangement, Martin Lass has arranged Claude Debussy's piano piece, "Invocation of Pan, God of the Summer Wind," from his suite, "Six Épigraphes Antiques," (L. 131, CD. 139) for student string orchestra."Six Épigraphes Antiques" is a suite of six pieces by Claude Debussy, originally written for piano four-hands. Completed in July 1914, the suite was Debussy's only completed composition that year. In 1915, Debussy transcribed the pieces for piano solo. Over 100 measures of the music is taken from the musical accompaniments he had written in 1901 for his friend Pierre Louÿs's poems, "Les Chansons de Bilitis." In 1939, the Swiss conductor Ernest Ansermet created an orchestration of the suite. The main challenges of this arrangement are in the ensemble collectively negotiating the tempo variations and subtleties, in achieving the dynamic and phrasing contrasts, and, while doing this, ensuring that the key melodic lines are not lost in the texture. Some minor changes have been made to the original music as it appears for piano to accommodate clarity and articulation of the thematic material when transcribed for strings. The original key has been retained, as this works well for strings.Duration: 2 mins This product was created by a member of ArrangeMe, Hal Leonard's global self-publishing community of independent composers, arrangers, and songwriters.
