Inspired by both lulling my newborn son to sleep and a recent concert tour of Northern Ireland and theRepublic of Ireland with Princeton Girlchoir, I originally arranged this traditional Irish Lullaby for thePrinceton Day School Chorale. Because the melody of this lullaby is so simple, I chose to add somecomplexity of harmonic language and rhythmic interest in the piano accompaniment. The violin part wasinspired by my wanderings through the city of Dublin, where one can often hear beautiful fiddle musicwafting through the air from pubs or distant street musicians.
