A friend of Adolphe Sax, his works for the saxophone are among the first for this instrument. In addition to three fantasies for alto saxophone and piano, Savari wrote a series of ensembles which go from duo to octet. His works were published by Sax between 1861 and 1862. He died in 1870. This duo is written in a simplified "Sonata-allegro" form and demonstrates Savari's skill in writing counterpoint, with inversions of the principal themes in order to present the material in both instruments.
