They were the first sacred cantatas in France to be based on themes from the Old Testament. They caused a sensation and very quickly enjoyed great popularity. One further volume with secular cantatas appeared which she dedicated to the Elector of Bavaria, Maximilian II, in the hope of gaining a new benefactor. This third book, the last volume of her Cantates franooises, is based on secular themes of the ancient world. It contains three works: Semele, L'ile de Delos and Le Sommeil d'Ulisse.First Publication.
