Composed in 1871, the piece loosely follows the Italian Marcia simfonico style, a form which is more flexible than the standard military march. Delle Cese paints an image straight out of an Italian opera, using sudden dynamic shifts, mood changes, and overall expressiveness for dramatic effect.
