About this arrangement

Piano,Vocal,Voice - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.882282 Arranged by A. Douglas Biggs. Christmas,Contemporary,Sacred. Score. 7 pages. Adrian D Biggs #6620043. Published by Adrian D Biggs (A0.882282). This arrangement of Lo How a Rose E’er Blooming takes a fresh look at the beloved 16th century Marian hymn. The familiar melody is now restructured into the gently asymmetrical 3+2+2 rhythm of a 7/8 meter. The music flows out, with that slight asymmetry giving an attractive "lilt" to the well-known tune. As with the rhythmic structure, the harmony is also reconsidered. Sonorities from related tonalities appear, providing new colors to enhance the well-known theme. The second verse features an elaborate variation of the melody. The singer is allowed to roam a bit and stretch their wings. Finally, the song drifts away recalling the final line of each verse, "when half-spent was the night."
