Long Tail Blue This song referring to fashionable dress coat is from the 1820’s and is generally attributed to George Washington Dixon but no one really knows. This adaption/arrangement is for string orchestra and optional piano. Written in the key of G and is in cut-time, it uses slurs, ties, hooked bows, quarter, half, dotted-half and whole notes. Bowings are marked including bow lifts. Fingerings include: L2 in violin 1, L1 in violin 2, H3 and C/D double stop in viola, 2 in the celli and bass. Cello have a nice counter-melody and the bass plays pizzicato throughout. Great piece for contest.
