Paul Hindemith was a prolific German composer of the first half of the 20th century. In addition to his more serious works, he also frequently composed short pieces to be played with the many fine musicians, both professional and amateur, whom he counted among his friends and family. This particular piece, Ludus Minor, consists of three short fugues and two interludes, and was originally composed for clarinet and 'cello. This transcription for clarinet and bass clarinet remains true to the composer's first edition manuscript, requiring an extended-range bass clarinet to match the range of the original 'cello.
