"Meditation on a Masonic Tapestry (for Organ)" was inspired by a Masonic tapestry I recently saw; a tapestry in the style of eighteenth-century Masonic tracing boards (boards with Masonic symbols drawn or painted on them. These boards were used to instruct candidates during initiations). The tapestry was created by twentieth-century German Masonic artist, Kharmacher. While the piece contains some musical Masonic symbolism, the piece is basically impressionistic; a meditation on the tapestry as a work of visual art in and of itself, and the moods/atmospheres it may evoke.
