The work was written as a side project in segments over the course of the composer's undergraduate degree, beginning as a fragment of a melody and eventually arriving at the final product it is today. The instrumentation of the piece makes use of two 4.3 octave marimbas, a vibraphone, glockenspiel, tubular bells, and various unpitched percussion instruments. An attempt at writing for mostly keyboard instruments in the percussion ensemble setting, this melody-based composition recreates the atmosphere of feeling left alone in a seemingly haunted mansion with nowhere to run. Midnight Manor is in ABA form, with the A sectionreturning at the end in a more evolved and virtuosic twist, with melodic lines interlacing between instruments and performers.
