"Nothing Compares 2 U" is a song written and composed in 1985 by Prince for his side project the Family; the song appeared on their debut album, The Family. Several years later, Irish singer-songwriter Sinéad O'Connor recorded a version of the song for her second studio album, I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got (1990). It was released as the album's second single and became a worldwide hit, along with a now classic music video, mostly consisting of long, lingering close-up shots of O'Connor's face, with real tears being shed towards the end. The song has been covered by many artists over the years, including Aretha Franklin and Chris Cornell.
