SATB choir, descant, a cappella SKU: C5.5003 Composed by Nicola Montani. Arranged by Carol Trapuman-Carr. Text: Saint Gregory Hymnal. Easy setting of a Lenten hymn by Nicola Montani. Lent, Holy Week. Octavo. Published by CanticaNOVA Publications (C5.5003). Nicola A. Montani (1880-1948), a New York Catholic composer, founded the Saint Gregory Guild and contributed music and arrangements to the Saint Gregory Hymnal, originally published in 1920. O Come and Mourn with Me Awhile, one of Montani's tunes, has been sung by choirs for many Lenten seasons since it first appeared. Dr. Carol Trautman-Carr, Music Director at the Church of Saint Ann in Emmaus, Pennsylvania, has arranged this for a cappella SATB choir. Four verses are set: 1. SATB / 2. TB / 3. SAA / 4. SATB with descant. The vocal part writing is efficient and beautiful. Harmonies, centered on e minor, are refined and interesting. This motet would make a very accessible piece for Lent or Holy Week. As with all a cappella music published by CNP, we include a piano reduction of the voice parts for rehearsal use.
