About this arrangement

Concert band Mezzo-Soprano voice and concert band - Grade 3 SKU: BF.BM1072-SET From the Opera Sapho. Composed by Charles Francois Gounod. Arranged by Roger Niese. Baton Music vocal series. Full Score and set of parts. Baton Music #BM1072-SET. Published by Baton Music (BF.BM1072-SET). Sapho' is an opera by Charles Gounod to a libretto by Émile Augier which was premiered in 1851. The story of the opera is based on the legends of the Greek poet Sappho, her love for Phaon and her suicide. For the final soliloquy of Sapho, 'O ma lyre immortelle', Gounod used the melody of his earlier song 'Chanson du pêcheur'. Although the opera was not a great success, the aria 'O ma lyre immortelle' became very popular on its own and is recorded by many great singers. Dutch arranger Roger Niese transcribed this aria for mezzo soprano and Symphonic Band.
