The energetic 6/8 meter contributes to a mood of eager anticipation, as do the running eighth-note passages in the optional flute part. In "partner song style," two melodies are introduced at the beginning of the piece which are then sung together building to a joyous, climatic ending. The second melody with its repetitive textual and musical phrases is easy enough for younger elementary singers, making the piece appropriate for younger and older elementary choirs.
